In the first weeks in Lund I plan to work on two chapters for my dissertation. The first chapter is a description of the Danish Integrated Database for Labour Market Research (IDA). Despite the fact that this database has been around for almost three decades, there is no descent English description of this database.

The only two sources that are available are a document (in Danish) written in 1991 by Emerek et al. and some scarce English documentation on the website of Statistics Denmark. the purpose of this chapter is thus to describe this database more thoroughly compared to the one page description found in papers. Second, I will write it in line of the topic of the dissertation, i.e. entrepreneurship. For this reason, I will provide an short overview of studies in the field of entrepreneurship that have used the database.

The second chapter will form the base of the sample selection. Due to the large heterogeneity of start-ups that can be found in the database I decided to focus on one type of start-up in particular, i.e. knowledge and technology intensive start-up. Motivation for this is the importance of human capital in these type of firms. However, a challenge is to select this particular form of start-up. The method for selecting this start-up will be developed more thorougly in this chapter.
